Winter, gotta love it!!??

As you know it is bloody cold out & we have had more snow!! I'm so sorry, it does seem to be that since I arrived in Lethbridge, in Oct. 07, there has been more snowfall & cold temperatures then ever before!
To cheer you all up I thought I'd post what winter looks like in Thunder Bay!!! These pictures were from 1996 when we got 52cm of snow!! The pictures really don't quite show how much snow that was but here goes......
These are pictures from our parking lot of the apt. that Brad & I lived in....there was about 10 feet of snow that we had to dig through, just to get to our vehicles.
The front of the apt. building....you could not drive, let alone walk anywhere....
My van after I dug it out!, there is a car beside that is still buried......
We had to dig our way out of the apt. building......
Brad is 6'3" & that snowbank behind him was above his head......
This is the garbage shed beside the apt. building....after they plowed our parking lot the snow was higher then the shed....
So, all cheered up now!!!! LOL!!

Chance

I found this poem on aychiwawablogspot.com & I hope she doesn't mind me reprinting it here. It really struck a cord with me because it is Chance's life exactly before my mom adopted him. He was 7.5 yrs old & the previous owner was having another baby..guess who lost?....Chance just passed away & I hope that the more people that read this poem will help to get the message across about abandoning dogs....

I ADOPTED YOUR DOG TODAY
I adopted your dog today
The one you left at the pound
The one you had for seven years and no longer wanted around.
I adopted your dog today
Do you know he's lost weight?
Do you know he's scared and depressed and has lost all faith?
I adopted your dog today.
He had fleas and a cold, but don't worry none.
You've unburdened your load.
I adopted your dog today
Were you having a baby or moving away?
Did you suddenly develop allergies or was there no reason he couldn't stay?
I adopted your dog today
He doesn't play or eat much
He's very depressed, but he will learn again to trust.
I adopted your dog today.
And here he will stay.
He's found his forever home and a warm bed on which to lay.
I adopted your dog today.
And I will give him all that he could need.
Patience, love, security, and understanding.
Hopefully he will forget your selfish deed

Never A Dull Moment!

Kort Kort what a sport, he is really really smoort!!...smart didn't rhyme LOL!!
Anyway, Amanda has another version of the Kort song but I won't sing it to you!!
Speaking of Kort, he is always finding new & creative ways to amuse himself...take this morning for example, I let him out for his pee, and when I went to call him back in I was greeted by Kort holding one of my plants, roots and all, that I had planted last summer.....apparently he just reaches over the fence and gives them a tug and out they come!! Upon checking the yard, this was not the first time, there are remains of a few of my poor plants. Hmmmm, should be an interesting summer!
Remember this innocent puppy?......

Interesting tail curl ya got going there Kort!

Nature's Beauty

I had never seen a hoar frost before I moved to Lethbridge. It is one of the most beautiful things to see.....we had one last night, so today I have pictures of trees instead of dogs!! Ok, I have one picture of Kort as Tate would not co-operate...and of course I have more video of Kort playing with a stick as usual, and Tate barking, wagging, and following me with the camera as I tried to get him to stand still, he was a real clown today!
Hope you like the pictures as much as I do!......
Various trees along my walk and in Nicholas Sheran Park......it sure makes the previously naked branches beautiful doesn't it?......
And finally,video!!......

Good Day

Today was a fun day....I took the dogs for an hour long walk this morning, then a run in a local field where we met up with a white Siberian Husky named Whistler. The boys had fun romping around with him. Then in the afternoon, Wendy, Amanda , Sandy & I ventured back out to Peenaquim Park for another walk. We were all extra cautious & had all our dogs leashed while we walked by the river. I am happy to report that it was just a plain old boring, uneventful walk....perfect!!!
When I got home my picture from Calgary was in the mail. This was a candid that I bought taken of Kort gaiting in the ring. I believe this was just before we got our reserve.....I like it!

A Close Call

What started out as a perfect walk turned into a nightmare. Me, Sandy, Wendy & Amanda took our dogs out walking at an off leash park this afternoon. Sandy's little terrier Sadie spotted some geese & she was on the run. Kort & Mira were following her but luckily they thought better & didn't venture down the steep cliff. I was the closest, as I was running for Kort, when I heard Sandy scream & yell Sadie's name....I looked over the edge to see Sadie had broken through the ice & Sandy was on her belly inching her way toward her. It was straight out of a movie, Sandy reached for Sadie & hurled her onto the top of the ice, she then peeled off Sadie's wet coat & ran with Sadie in her arms to make her way up the steep incline. Amanda had made her way to us by then & was about to go down to help when Sandy got another burst of adrenaline & made it up the incline a bit more....I scooped up Sadie & Amanda hurled Sandy up the rest of the way.
It was horrible to think what might of happened, Sandy & Sadie are recovering at home tonight & I wish them the best. We were blessed today with a happy outcome but it has really affected me .
You can read more about it on Sandy's blog, miradukesadie.
2 pictures of Miss Sadie having fun today......

On our last outing to the same park Sadie got cold feet so I carried her for awhile....wish she had gotten cold feet today......

Fun In The Snow

Well what are ya gonna do when it snows on Valentine's Day & you're up at the crack of dawn?? Well, you go out & take pictures & more video of the dogs!!!
The boys & I had a great time this am. as no one was in the park, they just ran & played & I took more pictures.... you are my captive audience so you can decide whether to watch more video of the dogs .
Pictures first!......

Now the video......the 3rd one is a view of the park & the last one shows Kort playing with one of his "fence buddies". There are a bunch of dogs along our route that we never see out of their yards, but the dogs have made friends with them. Sure hope they get out for walks instead of always seeing the world from behind a fence. The video is a bit dark but like I said , it was early & snowing!!

Outdoor Fun

This morning, before the "deodorant incident", I took some video of the dogs playing in the yard. Kort has been in the family for 8 months & Tate is slowly starting to enjoy running around with him. Tate makes me laugh as he never ever stops wagging his tail...I shot some video of that too!
I like these videos because you can see Tate's personality coming out....he is a super happy patient dog who likes to bark. Kort is a bundle of energy, to know him is to love him!

Stupid Question of The Day

Question: What does it feel like to have roll on deodorant splashed in your eye??
Answer: Like a thousand hot needles being poked into it........it did, & still does, a half hr. later.
Don't Ask.......

Happy Wednesday

I really don't have anything to say!! again!!, so I'm going to talk about my grooming session!
I just came up from downstairs where I was grooming Kort. I thought I would have enough time to do both Tate & Kort but holy cow does Kort have coat! It's quite deceiving because he has a correct fitted coat, but when you get into it it's very dense. I LOVE it!!! All of my collies have been lacking in undercoat, they are inside dogs, especially Tate!! I hope Kort keeps his coat, he will go through his first shed around his first birthday, it will probably big a huge one, they usually are at that age. Fingers crossed it will come back. I am also excited to see what colour he will end up being. He is a tri factored sable so he should get darker as he ages.
To show you what I mean, here are pictures of my collie Drake, amazing isn't it?

Time's Flying

Today Kort is 9 months old! The 1 year mark is fast approaching, hard to believe!
Going back, .....this was one of the first pictures Dave sent me of all the boys, this is Kort at 2 weeks of age, of course I didn't know it was Kort......doesn't he look like he's giving us the evil eye!!!......
When the puppies were 3 weeks old, Brad & I drove down to see the litter, this is me holding Kort at the age of 3 weeks. I still did not know this would be my puppy at the time, he was the biggest male in the litter & his name was Tank!!......
This is the picture Dave sent me when he had decided which puppy would be mine!!......
This is Kort at 8 weeks the day I picked him up......
Now, he is 9 months & the fun is just beginning!!

Kort's First show!

Wow!!, what a weekend I've had! I will just do a quick summary as I need to finish laundry etc. & I feel like going to bed. We were showing early everyday so I was up at 5 am. on Fri. & Sat., & 4:30 am. this morning!! not fun!!
Kort lost out to his litter brother everyday, including the specialty puppy sweepstakes, which was ok by me as this litter is so alike & beautiful that it was a really difficult decision for the judges I'm sure. But, Sat. night at the collie specialty my little Peanut surprised me by going reserve winners male!! The entry was not large, but like I said it was so quality packed that it really was difficult! Kort was amazing for his first show, we haves tons to work on, his movement can be sloppy & he gets a little antsy at times, but he is going to be an amazing show dog, he is really an awesome puppy & I was soooooo proud of how he just went with the flow this weekend, nothing bothered him....he was in 5 shows altogether & that is alot for a puppy.
I have to mention the highlight of the weekend, the specialty judge was Barry Hastings of Kaiteka Collies, he was kneeling down in front of Kort to examine his head when he stopped to talk with Kort & tell him he was a good boy, Kort was kind of nuzzling him, then Barry put his forehead against Kort's forehead for a moment & just enjoyed my puppy, it was so touching. I'm not sure if perhaps Kort reminded him of a previous dog or he was just so happy to be judging. I'll probably never have such a gentle judge appreciate my dog like that again.
Here's our picture, it is wonderful considering I did not touch Kort at all, I just walked up, & Kort's breeder Dave showed him the bait & this is what we got!!
Did I mention how proud I am???!!!
Thanks to Cathy French for the gorgeous picture......
