Kort

On Tuesday October 20 2020 Kort was put to sleep.  He died peacefully while I held his head in my hands.

He went downhill rather suddenly. He had a episode on Oct 12 at 3 in the morning.  I found him trapped under the end table.  He lost the use of his back legs for a bit as well.  Then I noticed his neck , chin, and muzzle were swollen.  I took him to the vet but they couldn't find anything. He had no abscesses on his teeth and the only concern was that he had lost 6 pounds.  During the following week he developed a cough, wouldn't walk up or down the stairs and just looked sick.  On Oct. 20 I brought him back to the vet for a chest xray, hoping to find out the reason for the cough.  He had pleural effusion, fluid around the lungs. It could have been caused by any number of things, none of them good. I made the decision to let him go. He was 12 years and 5 months old.

Kort was an amazing performance dog.  He did whatever I asked and he did it well.  He had titles in Obedience, Rally, Agility, Scenthurdle and Herding. He was also a Canadian Show Champion.

The house is quieter without him, not in a good way.  We miss him so much.  He had a good life and was very much loved. Sleep softly my Kort say hi to Tate for me.

Wowzers! Today I am 60 years old!!! Do I feel 60? no Do I look 60? I don't think so!

I won't be having any special celebrations for this milestone Birthday. My family has dwindled down over the years. I will spend it quietly at home with my husband and dogs.

Walking Again

I used to walk all the time even to work when I lived in Thunder Bay.  I have slowly stopped .  It's been hard to walk 3 dogs together so I stopped doing that as often as I used to.  When I had only one dog I walked him twice a day.
Anyway, I have started again.  I am so out of shape it's pathetic!  My hip hurts, my knee hurts, and my shins and ankles hurt! yikes!  I have been going every second day and walking for about 20 minutes.  It's not much but it's a start.  I go after work before going home and on the weekends I walk each day with a different dog.  Lets hope I get back into shape soon!

Hanging In

Still hanging in during the lockdown of non essential services.  Brad and I are still working thank God so we count ourselves among the lucky ones.  So many are out of jobs it's just scary.
We are starting Phases May 14 to re open Alberta.  Time will tell if this was too soon I guess.
The dogs are doing great and are enjoying my shortened hours.  Starting Monday I will be back to my regular hours of 7-3. I am not looking forward to that.  It was so nice to be home early on most days.
All dog shows are still cancelled, for the summer anyway.  I am hoping our November Show will be on as it will be the first time I can show Lync in Veterans! I cant believe he will be 7 in August!  Kort will be 12 in 3 days.  I will do a special post just for him on that day.
That's about all the updates I have for now!

A New Reality

How is everyone coping with the new world we are now living in?

I am still working .  I am a dog groomer.  We are taking precautions, lots of hand washing, disinfecting door handles, debit machine and anything else the public comes in contact with.  I have mixed feelings. I would rather stay home but can't afford to not get a paycheck. My husband is also still working and we are thankful for our jobs.  The only time we go out is if we need groceries . So many people in our community are not practicing self isolation.  The other day I went out for milk and there was a dad in the store with his 2 public school aged kids.  Crazy.  I've seen Facebook posts of people still travelling to tourist attractions.  They are treating this like a holiday instead of a pandemic. What don't they understand about all of this?  It's all just so scary.

I hope you are all safe and will continue to stay so.
