After walking the dogs tonight I decided to make a list of things that Kort reacts to. By react, I mean, barking, pulling, whining, leaping, hyperventilating etc. He gets in a zone where he doesn't even react to his name....we have been working on this, but it is slow going. I was just curious as to whether anyone had a bigger list!Here it is in no particular order........
1) other dogs, especially ones behind a fence
2) bikes
3) motorcycles
4) loud cars or trucks, especially ones that are in need of mufflers!
5) rollerbladers
6) skateboarders
7) rabbits
8) loud children that scream or approach quickly....NOTE: this one makes me jump & bark also !
9) people walking up the sidewalk
10) & dogs he can "hear" barking
I'm exhausted just thinking about it!

I know, I know, I talk about it all the time- but it's AWESOME.
One of our collies reacts like you describe but only to vehicles near our home. If I take her out, she ignores all that stuff. I would need to add tractors, 4 wheelers, skid loaders, golf carts, and her people as they go to get said vehicles. What works to stop this?
Coulee can match Kort on all of those. Notice we don't do leash walks?

Hey Jolene, I will add to your list...egg beaters, electric toothbrush, vaccum cleaner, lawnmower. All kidding aside, the biggest vice is Air Planes...the dogs go nuts and actually leap in the air trying to catch those loud things. LOL
Jolene - he wants to HERD! Also, if you worked with Scott and Jenny a bit, they would show you how to channel this, and to control it by giving you and him some tools. When I read this, it is all a strong desire to herd that I see. Controlling the behaviour by letting him herd and getting a few commands will be the ticket IMHO. Ask Louanne about it when you go for your instint test and she will fill you in. He sounds like the typical herding dog in drive, you should be so lucky to have a dog with such desire!

Well Duffy does all that and add: vacuum cleaner, leaf blower,hair dryer,and he barks at everyone we pass as we are driving down the street and he's in the back of the truck. He has got used to motor cycles going down the lane and he doesn't bark at neighbors, only strangers. He whines and yips when little kids are on the other side of a fence. Strong herding drive too? How do I get into this for him?

Kort used to react to vaccum's, holy cow was that a hard one to break! I had to put him outside, now it's ok!

he has come a long way- and you just need to keep it up. you also could try the halti- it would give you more control as to what he is looking at...

Wow, what fun....sounds a little like Soleil & Ty.....but, my favorite thing is to get them to pay attention to me with the clicker and treats ~ so easy!!!
Now, my problem with Soleil's barking is if she wants to bark at me and I tell her to stop she barks more. Whatever I do to stop her apparently makes her think I'm saying "Bark more!!" It's like she's laughing at me.
