Urban Wolf Update

We are now into week 3 of feeding Urban wolf.
I am still trying to find what is going to work the best for Kort. The first week I added chicken, his stools where pretty good so I thought I would mix things up a bit & I gave him beef the 2nd week. That did not go over as well as I had hoped :), he was quite loose with the beef.
I also started feeding him some raw pork side ribs...yes, I said RAW !!! I wanted something to satisfy his need to chew because the Urban Wolf is soft. At first he wasn't sure about them, but now he is crazy about them, I just don't watch :))
I am not sure if it was the beef, or the raw bones that made him loose, so, I have stopped the bones for now, & have started week 3 with 2 parts of ground pork & one part ground chicken, this combo seems to be working great, so far so good! If his stools remain firm on this I will introduce the bones back & see what happens.
I think the problem was that I did too much too soon.
I hope I can find the right mix for Kort, he really LOVES this way of eating !

Meat without bones can be a nightmare, but the Urban Wolf must have enough bonemeal in it to compensate (?). If you were feeding ground beef (not the best), that would make even my dogs have loose stools. Certain meats just might not be ideal for him as he might be allergic. I always recommend keeping on a certain meat for a week before switching to something different. Good luck!

thanks!, he is doing good with the ground pork, had a set back this am. as I used just regular treats for his class last night, now I have to find something he can eat as treats!...sooo sensitive...
I believe the Urban wolf does have bonemeal in it, I'll double check...

oh, I am going to bring back his pork bones, just as soon as his tummy settles...he really liked them & I have no worries about him having them :)

I was waiting for another raw feeder to comment first as you must be sick of me talking about it!!! LOL!! Yes, ground beef is especially a problem because the fat content (even in lean) would be more than a dog can tolerate, especially a dog new to raw. With ground meat in general, it's hard to know what's in it and what the ratios of fat, meat, and gawd know's what else!! And of course we have discussed the fact that as Duffy has a problem with beef in general, Kort may well have one too. It's wise to keep to one meat until you see nice firm poops and no problems for at least a week, before you start to introduce another meat--and do that slowly not an abrupt switch or it's cannon butt all over again!!
As for treats--well liver treats can cause problems because it's well, liver!! Liver can loosen the poop. As you know I dehydrate real meat. If you were interested in that route, start with chicken--like bonless breasts cut up in appropriate pieces. Salmon is great, but smelly--you don't want that on your hands in public--you'll be followed home by every cat and dog in the area!! Hahaha!!

I will also say with ground meat, that if any bacteria (which normally shouldn't be a problem with a raw-fed dog) is in the meat, the fact that it is ground up makes it proliferate thru-out the meat.
I always tell my puppy people that meat w/o bones is unnatural and it's a sure way to have loose stools, but I am sure your Urban Wolf has it in there to balance it out.

I also feed Urban Wolf with ground chicken w bone (raw). My worry is getting too much calcium since I believe UW is formulated for people that feed cooked meat without the bone. I just add it to my veg mix that I prepare and my dogs seem to be doing fine.
